Shinnok’s Conquest part 1:

A time long before Earthrealm had to defend itself from the armies of Outworld, and the tournament that would determine the fate of everything, Earthrealm was in danger. Before there were humans, before Raiden had took the mantle, ‘Protector of Earthrealm’; Shinnok planned his conquest. The Elder God desired to become even more powerful, to rebel against his brethren, and acquire everything. He started here, on Earth.

A claw struck the side of scaly skin, green blood dripped to the ground as a saurian put distance between him and another Zatarrian fighter. The two were locked into heavy battle to determine Earth’s mightiest warrior. Zaterra had been the first civilization developed on Earth. Saurians evolved from dinosaurs and their culture was still in the early developments. Komodo and Rex had fought through all the other contestants and was now facing off in this final fight.

Komodo had a rather noticeable size disadvantage to Rex but had been fighting considerably longer. This new violent upstart had brutally rose to the top with ease. Being a foot taller than the average Zatarrian, and weighing almost four hundred pounds of muscle, Komodo had his work cut out for him. The black wrappings around the older Saurian’s mouth flapped in the air before flying off.

Rex laughed at Komodo before saying, “How you feel about your odds now, chump.”

“I think if your fighting is as good as your trash talking, I’ll be fine.” Komodo retorted before feigning a full-frontal attack.

Komodo’s trick seemed to work because Rex attempted to grab him. Komodo was able to land a rather high kick to Rex’s face cutting part of his wrappings. Zatarrian warriors were dressed in typical ninja gear, sporting green and black colors for camouflage. Some of their race was naturally capable of camouflage, unfortunately, neither contestant had this ability.

Rex glared at Komodo before charging head first, figuring with his size the reigning champ wouldn’t be able to make a decent counter attack. Komodo tried tripping the big scaly brute in retaliation with his tail but was just swatted away instead. He rolled to his feet then rolled into Rex’s support base knocking his legs out from under him. The experienced raptor built Zatarrian pounced on the downed combatant and bit into his neck. Rex struggled to get Komodo off his back, but with the big claws anchored in the big upstart had to really push forward to pull the former champion off him.

After Rex finally got a hold of him, he flipped slammed Komodo in front of the towering lizard and delivered a big soccer punt that winded the former champ and sent him a foot up in the air. Green blood dripped down Rex’s visible bulky chest and back. With noticeable anger, Rex grabbed two handfuls of Komodo’s ninja garb and raised him above his head. The robust saurian countered by wrapping his tail around the neck of his opponent. When Rex dropped him, Komodo landed and leaped off his would-be challenger’s back breaking Rex’s neck with his tail.

The Zatarrian’s watching cheered as Komodo rose to his feet. Looking past the dirt and stone circle he heard the Zatarrian king declare him the winner. There was a big part of the champion that wasn’t entirely sure he was going to win. Rex was rather imposing.

“Komodo retains the title of Earth’s mightiest warrior!” shouted the king of Zaterra.

Komodo raised his hand and screeched loudly, as he reveled in his victory. warriors of the ever-increasing tribe beckoned for the champ to follow them as the king got up and started walking towards his hut. The king dressed in the hide of fierce beasts and ivory from the teeth of giant monsters continued onward. The royal hut was the biggest structure and sat at the base of the stairs that led up Sky Mountain. It was the sacred honor of their race to protect the Jinsei Chamber from off worlders. All of the contestants were told what was at stake from the beginning of the tournament. Being that Komodo was the second champion for two tournaments in a row, he was more than likely next up for the throne.

The champion stepped into the king’s chamber and took a knee before the one who had held the title ‘Earth’s mightiest warrior’ prior. Zaterra was the one who had united their race and was chosen by the gods. All Saurians looked to the wisest of their race to lead them. King Zaterra however, was secretly charged with protecting the Jinsei, unfortunately the king was now getting old.

“Rise my child.” Zaterra spoke.

Komodo promptly got to his feet wondering what he was going to be told. When he won the last tournament a decade ago, the champ had almost lost. Teeth and claws had always saved him, even when the tribes fought for control of Sky Mountain and the Jinsei Chamber. Zaterra became an empire that surrounded the mountain. Never did Komodo imagine he would become the most skilled fighter of his race.

“You came close to losing again.” The king chastised.

“Rex was strong to be sure, but I’m just more adaptable.” Komodo boasted jokingly.

“If you’re going to be Earth’s mightiest warrior, then false bravado isn’t going to cut it.” Zaterra scorned.

“Yes, my king, I’ll leave that to the tools provided to me.” Komodo assured his king.

“You could very well be the king next tournament, and to be honest your skill has always surprised me. You survived the war, and you’ve clawed your way to the top. It would be a shame to see you fail when your mean streak is needed the most.” The king continued to lecture.

“Yes, my king.” Komodo replied bowing his head.

King Zaterra shrugged before saying, “You will resume your duties of guarding the Jinsei Chamber, you may go.

Komodo nodded his head and left taking the exit to the ancient staircase. He ventured up the mountain to the Jinsei Chamber thinking about what the king had told him. When he arrived at the top, he was greeted by Sauria, she was one of the chameleon breeds. The female saurian was given to him upon winning the first tournament.

“I take it you were victorious.” Sauria assumed.

“Indeed, it is good to be back.” Komodo answered looking at her admiringly before looking turning his attention Zaterra down below.

It was at this point heavy fog started rolling in from the surrounding forests. As they looked down from the mountain over Zaterra, Komodo began getting an ominous feeling. What was going on, what was happening?
